During her visit to Leeds today (Thursday, 11 July), Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall will confirm the Government’s commitment to its Back to Work Plan, stressing that tackling economic inactivity is crucial for growth.

Key Statistics:

  • 9.4 million people are economically inactive.
  • 2.8 million out of work due to long-term sickness.
  • 900,000 young people (1 in 8) are not in education, employment, or training.

Three Pillars of the Government’s Back-to-Work Plan:

  1. National Jobs and Career Service: To increase employment and career progression.
  2. Work, Health, and Skills Plans: Led by local areas for the economically inactive.
  3. Youth Guarantee: Ensuring opportunities for all 18-21 year old’s.

Liz Kendall’s Statement: “Economic inactivity is holding Britain back. It’s bad for people, businesses, and growth. The UK is the only G7 country where employment hasn’t returned to pre-pandemic levels. It’s time for change nationwide.”

  • Public Health Actions: Building a healthier society for a healthy economy.

Youth Guarantee:
